Saturday of the Thirty-Fourth Week in Ordinary Time

Advent wreath first sunday

Yes, I know it’s the old school calendar but it serves its purpose.

Today is the last day of the Church Year.  Tomorrow begins a new liturgical year with the First Sunday of Advent.  What are you doing to prepare for the coming of the Lord?  Though not as overt as Lent, Advent is a penitential season.  While Lent is penitential in that we unite our penances and sacrifices in union with Christ’s salvific sacrifice on the Cross and in thanksgiving for His glorious Resurrection, Advent is also a penitential season in that we prepare for the coming (adventus) of the Word Incarnate.  Would it be better to welcome and embrace the Christ Child with pure heart and strengthened faith or a heart marred with sin and a tepid faith?  Penance, contrary to the prevailing mentality of our society, is a good thing, it strengthens the will and aids the soul in growth in grace.

Imma put an Advent wreath in the sidebar of the blog soon.  Yeah, I know, not like I have enough stuff there but w/e, everyone likes a Catholicky animated gif.

I was listening to iTunes at work one day when (and don’t ask me why I have this in my music library) Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” came up.  I started to listen to the lyrics:

I cannot in good conscience put the video up or link to it, it starts with about three minutes of what one commenter called “satanic porn” which might give you an idea and it just continues throughout.  Look it up yourself.

Here are the lyrics with my comments:

[Intro:]
It doesn’t matter if you love him, or capital H-I-M[So an intrinsically disordered desire/urge is compared to love of God (what I am assuming to be what “capital H-I-M” refers to)?]
Just put your paws up
’cause you were born this way, baby [You were born with original sin and concupiscence, dear.  You’re not infallible based solely on the fact that you draw breath and take up space in time. This is the basic justification of this whole song.]

[Verse:]
My mama told me when I was young
We are all born superstars [Fluff the ego while they are young so they have no sense of being fallen creatures with sinful proclivities much?]
She rolled my hair and put my lipstick on
In the glass of her boudoir [My mother did this for my sister and I when we were little.  Of course, we were girls so that’s totes fine.]

“There’s nothing wrong with loving who you are [Again, here’s the whole “I’m just fine the way I am.  I don’t need to change anything about me” schtick.]
She said, “‘Cause he made you perfect, babe” [Well, He did make us all perfect at the creation of man but then our first parents disobeyed God  and thus sin and its proclivities entered the world.  Summarized: You’re not perfect unless you work toward it with the grace and providence of God.]
“So hold your head up girl and you’ll go far,
Listen to me when I say”

[Chorus:]
I’m beautiful in my way [The fact that we are all made in the Image and Likeness of God makes me agree with this statement in theory but not in the way she means it.  We are still marred by sin (yes, I know Christ overcame it but sin still exists until His final victory at the end of time).]
‘Cause God makes no mistakes [Yes, but man can and does.  Newsflash: You are NOT God.]
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born this way [Yes, born with original sin and concupiscence.  The former of which is removed with valid baptism while the latter remains as a side effect.]
Don’t hide yourself in regret [Because we all know that man is infallible.  Regret your sins.  It won’t hurt.  It actually helps you grow closer to God and amend your sinfulness.]
Just love yourself and you’re set [“Self-love” is what got our society in this mess of entitlements and rampant immorality/amorality.  Let’s perpetuate it!  I always thought that one does not truly live unless one lives for the other.  I guess I was wrong. *facepalm*]
I’m on the right track, baby [You say that now wait until … later on.]
I was born this way [*snarl*]

[Post-chorus:]
Oh there ain’t no other way [You mean the way of repentance and atonement is not a viable option?  I should just keep going on with my sin though society tells me it’s all right?]
Baby I was born this way
Baby I was born this way
Oh there ain’t no other way [Do you notice the double negative?  So she is saying there is another way!  Wow.  For once there is a quark of truth in her catchy immorality.]
Baby I was born this way
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born this way

Don’t be a drag ‒ just be a queen [x3] [Because living one’s life oriented to and rooted in the True, the Good, and the Beautiful is so oppressive to my autonomous and infallible definition of what is right for me.  No matter how good I look in the clothes of the opposite sex.]
Don’t be!

[Verse:]
Give yourself prudence [I think prudence is the last thing on her mind aside from her eternal salvation right now.  Besides how does one “give [oneself] prudence?”  I always thought virtue came from the Holy Spirit.  Wrong again, I guess.]
And love your friends [You can love your friends.  You’re called to do that.  Along with loving your enemies.  But just because you love them doesn’t mean you should necessarily accept or condone their sinful choices.  Remember, “love the sinner, hate the sin.”]
Subway kid, rejoice your truth [“Rejoice your truth.”  Here we go, people, the summary of this whole song in two words!  Truth is relative and a personal thing rather than an objective thing that is common to all aspects of creation.]
In the religion of the insecure [So having concrete beliefs that are not necessarily accepted (more often demonized and volitionally misinterpreted) by society is a sign of insecurity?  I beg to differ.  I find that those persons of faith who believe things such as the intrinsic disorder-ness of homosexual urges and actions are not insecure but rather strong because they are so strong in their faith that they will stand up for it in the face of adversity instead of bending to societal pressures.]
I must be myself, respect my youth [Yes, be yourself but be your best self by modeling your life after that of Christ not after that of Lucifer whose sin of pride condemned him to Hell for all eternity.]

A different lover is not a sin [Yes it is.  Promiscuity (hetero and homosexual) is sinful because it perverts the procreative and unitive purposes of sex (which is within the marriage covenant between one man and one woman) and it debases man to a creature of instincts and drives.  It also proliferates disease and pregnancies out of wedlock.]
Believe capital H-I-M (Hey hey hey) [Belief in God means a whole lot when you spit in His face by spitting on His revealed Law and Truth with your lifestyle choices and other beliefs that ought to be rooted therein.]
I love my life I love this record and
Mi amore vole fe yah (Love needs faith) [Love is the highest of the cardinal virtues.  If love is perverted, then one’s faith is also twisted and not in line with Truth no matter how “strong” one may believe it to be.  If the foundation is faulty, don’t expect the rest of the structure to be sound.]

[Repeat chorus + post-chorus]

[Bridge:]
Don’t be a drag, just be a queen
Whether you’re broke or evergreen [True happiness does not come from what one has or does not have but in rooting and orienting one’s life to that of Christ and His Truth.]
You’re black, white, beige, chola descent [We’re all children of God.  Skin color means nothing save for the amount of melanin in your epidermis.]
You’re Lebanese, you’re orient
Whether life’s disabilities
Left you outcast, bullied, or teased [But why are people treated like crap by others?  Not because of “backwards” religious people and their “horrible” creeds.  It is so because of SIN!  But that doesn’t exist to you because that’s your version of truth.  Enjoy your delusion, it will only last until Old Goat Legs opens the gates of his home for you to enter for the rest of eternity.]
Rejoice and love yourself today
’cause baby you were born this way [*snarl*]

No matter gay, straight, or bi,
Lesbian, transgendered life, [All intrinsically disordered lifestyles and actions.  The people are not the entities faithful people hate but the sin that puts their salvations at stake.  But people can’t fathom that concept … they don’t want to.]
I’m on the right track baby,
I was born to survive. [Yeah, but when you are living your life mired in sin and immorality, don’t expect your eternity to be the delusion of “okay-ness” and “goodness” your temporal life was.]
No matter black, white or beige
Chola or orient made, [Why do people make such a big deal about race and ethnicity?  I find that the very people who want to make racism a thing of the past are the first ones to use it as an excuse for this, that, or another thing.  We can’t be a colorblind society until that stops.  Just my two cents.]
I’m on the right track baby,
I was born to be brave.

[Repeat chorus + post-chorus]

[Outro/refrain:]
I was born this way hey!
I was born this way hey!
I’m on the right track baby
I was born this way hey! [Maybe if she repeats it enough, it will become true.  Sorry, Truth doesn’t work like that.]
I was born this way hey!
I was born this way hey!
I’m on the right track baby
I was born this way hey! [Has Truth changed yet?  No.  *snaps fingers* Darn!  I thought I could control reality by willing it.]

[Fade away:]
Same DNA, but born this way. [Yes, human DNA is very similar between persons but concupiscence is not a matter of genetics but rather of the soul.  DNA cannot be changed.  The state of one’s soul can.  For better or worse.]
Same DNA, but born this way.

You have now perhaps ransomed a soul or two from Purgatory by reading those lyrics and my verbose commentary.  Congratulations on your selfless sacrifice.

Yes, I was bored.  I figured I would just do this for the heck of it.  I know at least one person who will be amused by it besides me.  This is how a theologically hyperanalyical mind listens to pop music that while having horrible lyrics is so darn catchy.  Of course, the serpent’s lie was pretty attractive too … kinda why man is in the mess he is in today and has been since the Fall.  Can we really be surprised?  Sin disguised as a catchy pop song is still sin … no matter how it may try to justify itself.

All right.  I have to go eat some dinner.  I might post later on or within the next couple days.  Not sure.  Let’s see where the evening takes me.

How are you preparing for the coming of the Lord?  Have you been to Confession lately?  Yes?  Go.  No?  Go.  Make sure you are even more faithful to your Mass attendance (you know, try to go besides on Sundays and holy days of obligation if you can) which includes going two days in a row for Immaculate Conception and the Second Sunday of Advent.

Share your plans and ideas in the comment box if you wish.  We’re here to help each other.  and see how random I can get with my posts.  lol  :)
